A practical guide for salon and barber shop owners
Your salon cleaning checklist
Separate the quick resets during the working day from the more thorough clean after closing. Use this checklist to plan who does what, spot the areas being missed and discuss a weekly clean with Amy.
Tick items as you go. Ticks aren’t saved for later; no details are sent or stored.

This is a planning aid for your salon’s routine. Your team’s between-client hygiene, tool cleaning and treatment procedures continue throughout the week; a weekly premises clean does not replace them. Follow your salon’s procedures and the instructions for each product, surface and piece of equipment.
During the salon day · Your team’s routine
Between clients
A styling station needs attention before the next person sits down. Assign these tasks within the salon, rather than leaving them for an external weekly cleaner.
Keep the routes around chairs and basins clear as you reset. Hair and wet floors need attention during opening hours, even when a more thorough clean is arranged for later.
At the end of the day · Your team’s routine
Leave an organised space
Closing checks make it easier to see what the salon needs and prevent the next day starting with leftover tasks. Use your salon’s normal procedures for waste, tools and equipment.
After closing · Gloss & Gleam’s service
Plan the thorough weekly clean
These are the four parts of Gloss & Gleam’s advertised weekly salon cleaning service. Use them as a starting point when you discuss your own rooms, floor surfaces and stations with Amy.
Explain which floor materials and finishes you have, where product residue tends to collect and whether any area needs a particular method or product. Agree the scope before the first clean. Tool sterilisation, clinical procedures and equipment servicing are separate from the premises-cleaning tasks listed here.

Plan the towel side of the week
Professional towel washing, drying and folding is available upon request. It is helpful to look at how towels move through your salon before discussing arrangements.
Collection, return arrangements and turnaround should be agreed for your salon. This checklist does not confirm a delivery service or a fixed laundry schedule.

Make the handover clear
An after-hours clean needs a clear agreement about the premises as well as the cleaning itself. Share practical access arrangements directly with Amy; keep keys, codes and client information out of public messages.
A weekly clean can support the working routine, but the right division of tasks depends on the salon. Use your notes to make the first conversation specific: the number of stations, floor types, rooms and closed nights matter more than a generic description of the shop.
Discuss your checklist with Amy ↗Further guidance for salon owners
For guidance beyond premises cleaning, see the National Occupational Standard for preparing and maintaining salon treatment areas, which covers following workplace and manufacturers’ instructions, and Shropshire Council’s salon guidance on keeping floors clear and addressing spillages. These resources inform the general planning notes above; your own salon’s procedures remain the starting point.
